米の季節に思う

早朝から名古屋のクライアントへ出張。
今朝の東京も朝から猛暑だったが、名古屋は輪をかけたように激暑の一日。
名古屋駅前の46階建て超高層「ミッドランドスクエアビル」も強い日差しに喘いでいる。成城石井の店の前のトラスの陰影が面白い。
名古屋駅から車で30分も走ると、昔ながらの農家が残っているが、早くも米が穂を垂れはじめている。気になるのは日本全国何処へ行っても水田の周りが工場や民家・アパートなどで埋め尽くされ、生活排水や工場排水と農業用水の区別をどうやっているのか分からないことだ。
夏休みに訪問した米どころで有名な新潟も、南魚沼のあたりはまだ工場も民家もそれほど多くないが、北魚沼から燕三条にかけて工場が水田を囲みはじめ、新潟近郊は水田の面積も非常に少なくなっている。
十年前までそれほど気にならなかったが、大切な農作物を育てる環境が著しく悪化していることが気になる。友人たちの中には無農薬や自然農法を実践している人も多いが、肝心の農業用水の水源確保がどうなっているのかはなはだ疑問に思われる。
そろそろ農地と民家と工場や郊外の大型店舗などとの棲み分けをもっと明確にしないと、まずいのではないだろうか？(hide)
